NUR SULTAN (AA) – Health authorities in several Eurasian and Central Asian countries reported more coronavirus infections and fatalities on Wednesday.
– Ukraine
Health Minister Maksym Stepanov said 77 more COVID-19 patients died over the past day, raising the death toll to 4,597.
Some 4,753 more cases brought the overall count to 239,337, while recoveries increased by 2,569 to reach 105,970, he said.
More than 59,000 COVID-19 tests were carried out in the last 24 hours across Ukraine, where restrictions have been extended until Nov. 1 and areas have been color-coded depending on infection rates.
– Georgia
Georgia’s COVID-19 caseload swelled by 508 over the past day to reach 9,794, according to health authorities.
Four more fatalities moved the death toll to 62, while recoveries increased by 348 to stand at 5,235.
– Uzbekistan
A total of 236 more cases raised Uzbekistan’s tally to 59,579, with two more fatalities moving up the death toll to 488.
With 107 additions, recoveries now stand at 56,165, or 94% of all confirmed cases, the Health Ministry said.
At least 2,923 people remain under treatment in the country.
– Kazakhstan
In Kazakhstan, 60 new infections raised the overall count to 108,362, according to the Health Ministry.
Recoveries increased by 98 to reach 103,465, while three fatalities pushed the death toll to 1,752.
Some 3,145 COVID-19 patients, including 74 children, are under treatment across the country, the ministry said.
– Worldwide
Across the world, COVID-19 has claimed over 1.05 million lives in 188 countries and regions since last December.
The US, India, Brazil, and Russia are currently the worst-hit countries.
More than 35.84 million cases have been reported worldwide, with recoveries now over 25 million, according to the US’ Johns Hopkins University.
