DIYARBAKIR, Turkey (AA) – A village guard succumbed to his wounds from an attack by PKK terrorists in Turkey's southeastern Diyarbakir province on Thursday, according the governor’s office.

Clashes broke out with PKK terrorists in the Hani district during counter-terrorism operations, said the office.

The injured village guard was rushed to Selahaddin Eyyubi State Hospital, but his wounds were too serious, it added.

Anti-terror operations are underway in the region to apprehend the terrorists.

In its more than 30-year terrorist campaign against Turkey, the PKK — listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU — has been responsible for the death of nearly 40,000 people.

More than 1,200 Turkish security personnel and civilians, including women and children, have been killed since July 2015 alone, when the terror group resumed its armed campaign against Turkey.
