NEW YORK (AA) – The stock market opened lower Monday to begin the new week on a lower note as oil prices started falling once again.
The Dow Jones fell 13 points to begin the day at 17,727 points. The S&P 500 declined 1 point to open at 2,056, while the Nasdaq was down 1 point to begin the day at 4,735.
At the opening bell, oil prices were down around one percent.
The American benchmark West Texas Intermediate traded at $44.39 per barrel with a 0.8 percent decline when the stock market opened, and the international benchmark Brent crude was around at $44.77 a barrel with a 1.4 percent decrease.
