US stock market opens lower

NEW YORK (AA) – The stock market opened lower Tuesday as nationwide voting in the U.S. presidential election began.

The Dow Jones lost 41 points to start the day at 18,217. The S&P 500 was down six points to 2,124 and the Nasdaq fell 15 points to 5,150.

Investors are wary of the uncertainty surrounding the election, which led to them taking sell-off positions in the markets, according to analysts.

The stock market had rallied Monday as all three indexes gained more than 2 percent following the FBI’s decision not to pursue charges against Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton.
