US: Father identifies Minnesota mall stabbing suspect

WASHINGTON (AA) – The father of a 22 year-old man who wounded nine victims in a Minnesota mall before being killed by an off-duty officer has identified the suspect as his son, Dahir Adan.

Ahmed Adan told the Minneapolis Star Tribune his son was born in Kenya, but grew up in the U.S.

He told the newspaper that he did not suspect his son was involved in any terrorist activity, and said authorities informed him Saturday night that his son had died.

St. Cloud Mayor Dave Kleis said Adan was shot and came back on three separate occasions during a final confrontation with an off-duty police officer.

Authorities previously said the suspect was wearing a private security company uniform when he rampaged through the St. Cloud mall.

A Daesh-run news agency, Rasd, reported Sunday that the terror group was taking responsibility for the attack, calling the perpetrator its “soldier”.

The group encourages so-called lone wolf attacks in countries participating in an anti-Daesh coalition led by the U.S.

St. Cloud is a city of 67,000 residents that is located 65 miles (105 kilometers) from the state’s largest metropolitan area, Minneapolis-St. Paul.
