UPDATE – Turkish stocks up at daily close

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index ended Thursday with a 0.19-percent rise to close at 102,784.03 points.

After opening the day at 102,752.83 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index went up 299.61 points from the previous close.

During Thursday's trading, the BIST 100 peaked at 102,937.16 points while its daily low was 101,945.35 points — 50 stocks on the index rose, 42 fell, and eight were flat compared to the previous close.

The benchmark index posted a 6.64 billion Turkish liras ($1.26 billion) daily trading volume and closed Thursday with a market value of around 669 billion Turkish liras ($128 billion).

The top companies of the BIST 100 were Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding, private lenders Garanti Bankasi and Akbank by market capitalization.

Turkey's national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, Garanti Bankasi, iron and steel producer Eregli Demir Celik recorded the highest trading volumes on Thursday.

Stocks of interest-free lender Albaraka Turk (ALBRK) showed the top performance of the day — up 13.07 percent — as shares of conglomerate Ihlas Holding (IHLAS) did the worst, falling 6.06 percent.

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate dropped to 5.2530 as of the daily close, as it was 5.2280 at Wednesday's close.

One euro traded for 5.9640 liras, versus 5.9570 at the previous close.

By market close, the British pound/Turkish lira exchange rate was 6.8220, compared to Wednesday's close of 6.7970.

One ounce of gold was sold for $1,307.00 at the daily close in Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, up from $1,314.10 at the previous close.

With a day range of $61.99 to $62.91, the price of Brent oil was around $62.12 per barrel as of 6 p.m. local time (1500GMT) on Thursday.
