UPDATE – Turkish stocks up at daily close

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index ended Thursday up 0.48 percent to close at 102,129.99 points.

After opening the day at 101,923.55 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index went up 484.17 points from the previous close.

During Thursday's trading, the BIST 100 peaked at 102,616.62 points while its daily low was 100,749.57 points — 52 stocks on the index rose, 37 fell, and 11 were flat compared to the previous close.

The benchmark index posted a 8.74 billion Turkish liras ($1.65 billion) daily trading volume and closed the day with a market value of around 665 billion Turkish liras ($127 billion).

By market capitalization, the leading companies of the BIST 100 were Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding, private lender Garanti Bankasi, and energy giant Tupras.

Turkey's national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, Garanti Bankasi, and defense company Aselsan saw the highest trading volumes on Thursday.

Real estate investment trust Ihlas Gayrimenkul (IHLGM) showed the best performance of the day — up 19.61 percent — as shares of conglomerate Verusa Holding (VERUS) did the worst, falling 9.44 percent.

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate stood at 5.2990 as of the daily close, up from 5.2560 at Wednesday's close.

One euro traded for 6.0030 liras, versus 5.9360 at the previous close.

By market close, the British pound/Turkish lira exchange rate was 6.8080, compared to Wednesday's close of 6.7860.

One ounce of gold was sold for $1,306.15 at the daily close in Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, down from $1,311.80 at the previous close.

With a day range of $63.33 to $64.81, the price of Brent oil was around $63.52 per barrel as of 6 p.m. local time (1500GMT) on Thursday.

At the beginning of 2019, the price of Brent oil was around $53 per barrel.
