UPDATE – Turkish stocks up 2.36% at Monday's close

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index ended the day up 2.36% to close at 118,485.24 points on Monday.

After starting the week at 117,384.51 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index climbed 2,736.77 points from 115,748.47 points at last week's close.

During Monday's trading, the BIST 100 hovered between 115,311.53 points and 117,391.24 points — 24 stocks on the index rose, 29 fell, and the remaining were flat compared to the previous close.

Closing the day with a market value of nearly 861 billion Turkish liras ($125 billion), the benchmark index posted a daily trading volume of 21.7 billion Turkish liras ($3.16 billion).

The highest trading volumes were posted by conglomerate Tekfen Holding, real estate investment trust Emlak Konut and energy company Odas Elektrik.

Oyak Cimento, a group of cement companies, was the best performer, with its shares up 5.89%, while Bulk food provider Bizim dropped the most, losing 1.65%.

The price of one ounce of gold was $1,777.60 by market close, up from $1,775.00 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $43.3 per barrel as of 6 p.m. local time (1500GMT) on Monday.
