UPDATE – Turkish stocks up 0.48% at close

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index ended Thursday up 0.48% to close at 102,648.93 points.

Starting the day at 102,418.14 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index rose 491.40 points from 102,157.53 points at the midweek close.

During Thursday's trading, the BIST 100 hovered between 102,149.07 points and 103,227.25 points — 40 stocks on the index rose, 59 fell, and one was flat compared to the previous close.

Closing the day with a market value of nearly 738.1 billion Turkish liras ($108.8 billion), the benchmark index posted a daily trading volume of 12.4 billion Turkish liras ($1.8 billion).

Shares of private lender Garanti BBVA, defense company Aselsan and national flag carrier Turkish Airlines saw the highest trading volumes during the day.

Stocks of energy company Ipek Dogal Enerji (IPEKE) were the top gainer with a 8.29% rise, while shares of another energy company Aksa Enerji (AKSEN) dropped the most, falling 8.04%.

The price of one ounce of gold was $1,735.00 by market close, down from $1,743.00 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent oil was $36.51 per barrel as of 6 p.m. local time (1500GMT) on Thursday, with a daily range of $35.75 to $36.98.

At the beginning of 2020, a barrel of Brent oil sold for around $58.
