UPDATE – Turkish stocks looking up at close

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index closed the day at 101,595.33 points on Wednesday, up 0.88% from the previous close.

After starting the day at 101,212.50 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index increased 887.84 points from 100,707.48 points at Tuesday's close.

On Wednesday, the BIST 100 hovered between 100,579.05 points and 101,742.67 points as 49 stocks on the index rose, eight fell and the remaining were flat compared to the previous close.

Closing the day with a market value of some 714 billion Turkish liras ($102 billion), the benchmark index posted a daily trading volume of 13.1 billion Turkish liras ($1.9 billion).

The shares of supermarket chain Migros, private lender Garanti and petrochemical firm Petkim saw the highest trading volumes.

The stocks of Dogus Otomotiv showed the best performance rising 9.99%, while shares of prominent hospital group MLP Saglik (MPARK) did the worst, losing 6.99%.

The price of one ounce of gold was $1,712.00 by market close, up from $1,711.00 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $24.30 per barrel as of 6.00 p.m. (1500GMT) on Wednesday.
