UPDATE – Turkish stocks go down at daily close

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index ended Thursday down 0.66% to close at 101,940.34 points.

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index started the day at 102,913.54 points. As of today's closing, it slipped 678.07 points from the midweek close at 102,618.41 points.

During Thursday trading, the BIST 100 hovered between 101,913.90 points and 103,119.68 points — 26 stocks on the index rose, 63 fell, and 11 were flat compared to the previous close.

Closing the day with a market value of nearly 676.1 billion Turkish liras ($119 billion), the benchmark index posted a daily trading volume of 7.1 billion Turkish liras ($1.2 billion).

By market capitalization, Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding and private lenders Garanti BBVA and Akbank were the leading companies of BIST 100.

Shares of Garanti BBVA, national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, and Akbank saw the highest trading volumes on Thursday.

Stocks of conglomerate Ittifak Holding were the top gainers, rising 8.39%, while telecommunication giant Turkcell saw the biggest drop, falling 3.1%.

An ounce of gold sold for $1,507.00 at the daily close in Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, versus $1,531.00 at the previous close.

The price of Brent oil was $61.64 per barrel as of 6 p.m. local time (1500GMT) on Thursday, with a day range of $61.56 to $62.76.
