UPDATE – Turkish stocks end week with gain

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index climbed 0.67 percent to close the week at 103.185,70 points.

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index started Friday at 102,839.75 points, gaining 691.67 points from Thursday's close of 102,494.03 points.

The benchmark index hovered between 102,612.01 and 103,468.10 points during Friday's trading.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 676.9 billion Turkish liras ($127.4 billion) by market close and the daily trading volume was 6.5 billion Turkish liras ($1.2 billion).

On the last transaction day of the week, 69 stocks on the index rose, 26 fell, and five were flat compared to the previous close.

The highest trading volumes were posted by the national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, leading electronic appliances manufacturer Vestel and private lender Garanti.

Shares of Vestel were the top gainers — up 12.13 percent — and iron and steel producer Kardemir dropped the most, losing 5.79 percent.

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate stood at 5.3260 at market close, same with Thursday's close.

The euro/lira rate fell to 6.0460 at the weekly close, versus 6.0590 at the previous day's close.

One British pound traded for 6.9370 Turkish liras, while the GBP/TRY rate was 6.9740 at close on Thursday.

In Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, the price of one ounce of gold was around $1,324.00 by market close, down from $1,335.00 the previous day.

The price of Brent oil was around $67.41 per barrel as of 17.45 p.m. local time (1445GMT) on Friday.
