UPDATE – Turkish stocks end Tuesday 1.61% down

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index ended Tuesday down 1.61% to close at 91,482.45 points.

After starting the day at 90,801.28 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index fell 1,499.82 points from 92,982.27 points at Monday's close.

Peaking at 91,926.73 points, the BIST 100's daily low was 90,698.17 points during Tuesday's trading — 36 stocks on the index rose, 57 fell, and seven were flat compared to the previous close.

Closing the day with a market value of nearly 607 billion Turkish liras ($101.3 billion), the benchmark index posted a daily trading volume of 5.43 billion Turkish liras ($883 million).

By market capitalization, Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding ($6.39 billion), private lender Garanti BBVA ($5.29 billion), and iron and steel producer Eregli Demir Celik ($5.07) were the leading companies of BIST 100.

Stocks of Garanti BBVA, national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, and Eregli Demir Celik recorded the highest trading volumes on Tuesday — accounting for 34.7% of the benchmark index's total trade volume.

Shares of energy and construction company Isiklar Enerji Yapi Holding (IEYHO) were the top gainers for the second consecutive day with a 19.44% hike, as stocks of Tofas (TOASO), which operates in the automotive field, saw the biggest drop, falling 5.31%.

One ounce of gold was sold for $1,279.85 at the daily close in Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, versus $1,282.70 at Monday's close.

The price of Brent oil was $70.03 per barrel as of 6 p.m. local time (1500GMT) on Tuesday — with a day range of $69.39 to $71.36.

At the beginning of 2019, a barrel of Brent oil was sold for around $53.
