UPDATE – Turkish stocks down at Monday's close

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index ended Monday down 2.24% to close at 1,087.03 points.

After starting the week at 1,112.04 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index fell 24.94 points from 1,111.96 points at Friday's close.

On Monday, the BIST 100 hovered between 1,100.15 and 1,115.14 points – 20 stocks on the index rose, 33 fell, and the rest were flat compared to the previous close.

Closing the day with a market value of some 817 billion Turkish liras ($108 billion), the benchmark index posted a daily trading volume of 16.8 billion Turkish liras ($2.20 billion).

The highest trading volumes were posted by iron/steel producer Kardemir and glass manufacturers Sise and Trakya Cam

Stocks of Sise Cam were the best performer, up 2.50%, while paper-carton producer Kartonsan dropped the most, losing 6.76%.

One ounce of gold sold for $1,921.35 by market close, slipping from $1,953.85, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent oil was $41.55 per barrel as of 6 p.m. local time (1500GMT) on Monday.
