UPDATE – Turkish stocks down at daily close

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index ended the day down 0.11 percent to close at 104,074.22 points on Thursday.

After opening the day at 105,478.09 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index lost 115.23 points from the previous close.

During Thursday's trading, the BIST 100's daily low was 103,408.84 points as it peaked at 105,930.24 points, and 42 stocks on the index rose, 52 fell, and six were flat compared to the previous close.

With a market value of around 677 billion Turkish liras ($128 billion), the benchmark index posted a 9.85 billion Turkish lira ($1.88 billion) daily trading volume.

By market capitalization, the leading companies of the BIST 100 were Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding ($8.31 billion) and private lenders Garanti Bankasi ($7.21 billion) and Akbank ($6.97 billion).

Turkey's national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, Garanti Bankasi, and iron and steel producer Kardemir saw the highest trade volumes on Thursday.

Stocks of energy company Enerjisa (ENJSA) enjoyed the highest increase — up 6.87 percent — while shares of automotive manufacturer Karsan (KARSN) showed the worst performance, falling 7.59 percent.

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate dropped to 5.1760 as of the daily close, versus 5.2820 at Wednesday's close.

One euro traded for 5.9630 liras, down from 6.0370 at the previous close.

The British pound/Turkish lira exchange rate stood at 6.8120 by market close, compared with Wednesday's close of 6.9160.

One ounce of gold was sold for $1,324.25 at the daily close in Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, up from $1,313.80 at the previous close.

With a day range of $61.46 to $62.27, the price of Brent oil was around $62.17 per barrel as of 6 p.m. local time (1500GMT) on Thursday.
