UPDATE – Turkish stocks down at daily close

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index went down 1.34% to close at 96,886.48 points on Thursday.

After starting the day at 97,911.90 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index dropped 1,316.72 points from Wednesday's close of 98,203.20 points.

The BIST 100 hovered between 96,623.69 points and 97,912.10 points — 27 stocks on the index rose, 69 fell, and four were flat compared to the previous close.

Thursday's trading saw a volume of 5.3 billion Turkish liras ($907 million), while the index ended the day with a market value of nearly 642 billion Turkish liras (some $112 billion).

Private lender Garanti, petrochemical producer Petkim and national flag carrier Turkish Airlines saw their highest daily trading volumes.

Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding, Garanti Bankasi, and another private lender Akbank were the top listed companies by market value.

Stocks of conglomerate Ihlas Holding (IHLAS) performed the best, rising 9.52%, as shares of private lender Sekerbank (SKBNK) fell the most, losing 5.61%.

One ounce of gold was sold for $1,276.50 at the daily close in Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets versus the previous close of $1,276.50.

A barrel of Brent oil was sold for $71.73 as of 6 p.m. local time (1500GMT) on Thursday — with a day range of $71.19 to $72.03.
