UPDATE – Turkish stocks down at close

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index ended Tuesday down 0.46 percent to close at 91,800.86 points.

Starting the day at 92,449.60 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index fell 426.47 points from Monday's close.

During Tuesday's trading, the BIST 100 hovered between 91.609,96 and 92.704,03 points.

The BIST 100's total market value was 599 billion Turkish liras ($113 billion), while its daily trade volume was 5 billion Turkish liras ($930 million).

By market capitalization, leading listed companies were Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding ($6.82 billion), private lender Garanti Bankasi ($6.1 billion), and energy company Tupras ($5.7 billion).

Private lender Garanti Bankasi, national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, iron and steel producers Eregli Demir Celik and Kardemir saw the highest trade volumes on Tuesday.

Compared to the previous close, 37 stocks on the benchmark index rose, 56 fell, and seven was flat.

Shares of Turkey's leading tractor producer, Turk Traktor (TTRAK), posted the best performance, rising 3.08 percent, as stocks of chemical and paint producer Polisan Holding (POLHO) dropped 19.97 percent, highest decline on Tuesday.

As of daily close, one U.S. dollar traded for 5.3720 Turkish liras, while the USD/TRY exchange rate was 5.3060 at the previous close.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate was 6.1110, compared with Monday's close of 5.0590.

One British pound traded for 6.7770 Turkish liras, versus 6.7110 at close on Monday.

In Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, the price of one ounce of gold was around $1,249 by market close, versus $1,247 at the previous close.

Hovering between $59.59 and $61.09 during the day, the price of Brent oil was around $60.81 per barrel as of 6 p.m. local time (1500GMT) Tuesday.
