UPDATE – Turkish stocks down 0.63 pct at close

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index closed Monday down 0.63 percent at 89,961.91 points.

After starting the day at 90,595.64 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index dropped 566.73 points from last week's close at 90,528.64 points.

The BIST 100 peaked at 90,995.42 points, while its daily low was 89,933.04 points during Monday trading.

As of close, the total market value of the benchmark index was around 582.7 billion Turkish liras ($108.5 billion), with a daily trade volume of 3.5 billion lira ($650 million).

By market capitalization, leading listed companies were Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding ($6.8 billion), private lender Garanti Bank ($6 billion), and energy firm Tupras ($5.8 billion).

The highest trade volumes were seen by Garanti Bank, national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, and defense company Aselsan.

On Monday, 30 stocks on the BIST 100 rose, 65 declined, and five were flat compared to the previous close.

Stocks of casting producer Cemas Dokum saw the highest increase, up 19.28 percent, while shares of private lender ICBC Turkey Bank posted the worst performance, losing 19.96 percent.

One U.S. dollar traded for 5.3770 Turkish liras at daily close, versus Friday's closing rate of 5.3930.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate was 6.1060, versus 6.0840 at the previous close.

One British pound traded for 6.8000 Turkish liras, up from Friday's close of 6.7770.

In Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, the price of one ounce of gold was around $1,240.30 by market close, up from $1,239.00 at the previous close.

After hovering between $60.11 and $61.21 during the day, the price of Brent oil was around $60.49 per barrel as of 6.00 p.m. local time (1500GMT) Monday.
