ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index increased by 0.09% to close Wednesday at 1,211.51 points.

After starting the day at 1,220.88 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index earned 1.10 points over Tuesday's close of 1,210.41 points.

During the day, the index hovered between 1,209.31 and 1,222.95 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 889 billion Turkish liras ($112 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 21.3 billion Turkish liras ($2.7 billion).

On the third transaction day of the week, 42 stocks on the index rose, 54 fell, and four were flat compared to Tuesday.

The highest trading volumes were posted by private lender Garanti, glass maker Sisecam, and Turkiye Sigorta.

Paper-carton producer Kartonsan was the best performer, with its shares up 10%, while stocks of pharmaceutical firm Deva dropped the most, losing 3.84%.

The price of one ounce of gold was $1,900.00 by market close, up from $1,890.00 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $41.91 per barrel as of 6.15 p.m. local time (1515GMT) on Wednesday.
