ISTANBUL (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index climbed 0.29 percent to close at 92,120.33 points on Thursday.

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index started the day at 91,181.61 points, gaining 265.19 points from the previous close of 91,855.14 points.

The benchmark index hovered between 90,776.82 and 93,744.34 points during Thursday's trading.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 605.7 billion Turkish liras ($113.6 billion) by market close, and the daily trading volume was 11.6 billion Turkish liras ($2.08 billion).

On the fourth transaction day of the week, 49 stocks on the index were on the rise, 43 were on the decline, and eight were flat compared to the previous close.

The top listed companies by market value were Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding ($7.3 billion), private lender Garanti ($6.02 billion), and iron/steel producer Eregli ($5.8 billion).

The highest trading volumes were posted by private lender Garanti, national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, and another private lender Akbank.

Shares of Akbank were the top gainers — up 7.41 percent — and major appliances producer Vestel dropped the most, 5.46 percent.

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate rose to 5.5610 at close, versus Wednesday's close of 5.4070.

The euro/lira rate also rose to 6.3160 at Thursday's close, versus 6.1840 at the previous close.

One British pound traded for 7.3070 Turkish liras, while the GBP/TRY rate was 7.2170 at the close on Wednesday.

In Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, the price of one ounce of gold reached $1,305.60 by market close, down from 1,318.30 at the previous close.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $66.70 per barrel as of 6 p.m. (1500GMT) Thursday.
