UPDATE – Turkey's Borsa Istanbul flat at week's close

ISTANBUL (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index dropped by 0.03% to close at 96,861.42 points on Friday.

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index started the day at 97,081.97 points and lost 25.06 points from Thursday's close of 96,886.48 points.

The benchmark index hovered between 96,737.49 and 97,293.09 points during Friday's trading.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 642.5 billion Turkish liras ($110.6 billion) by market close, and the daily trading volume was 2.4 billion Turkish liras ($414 million).

On the last transaction day of the week, 63 stocks on the index were on the rise, 28 were on the decline, and nine were flat compared to the previous close.

The top listed companies by market value were Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding ($7.4 billion), and private lenders Garanti ($6.1 billion) and Akbank ($5.6 billion).

The highest trading volumes were posted by national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, petrochemical producer Petkim and Garanti.

Shares of conglomerate Alarko Holding were the top gainers — up 6.74% — and another conglomerate Enka dropped the most, 2.11%.

In Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, the price of one ounce of gold was around $1,278.50 by market close, up from $1,276.50 the previous day.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $72.00 per barrel as of 6 p.m. (1500GMT) Friday.
