UPDATE – Turkey's Borsa Istanbul flat at close

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index fell by 0.03 percent to close at 90,974.79 points on Thursday.

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index started the day at 91,793.23 points and lost 27.38 points from Wednesday's close of 91,002.17 points.

The BIST 100 peaked at 91,911.56 points, while its daily low was 90,762.84 points.

With a trading volume of 3.7 billion Turkish lira ($700 million), the BIST 100's total market value was around 587 billion Turkish liras ($111 billion) as of daily close.

National flag carrier Turkish Airlines, private lender Garanti Bank and leading defense company Aselsan posted the highest trade volumes on Thursday.

Compared to Wednesday's close, 25 stocks on the BIST 100 rose, 64 declined, and eleven were flat.

Shares of event organizer Flap were the top gainers, up 9.68 percent, while the shares of Turkish conglomerate Ihlas Holding performed the worst, losing 8.57 percent.

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate was flat at 5.2860 by market close, compared to Wednesday's close of 5.2840.

The euro/lira rate slightly rose at close; 6.0320 versus 6.0190 at the previous close.

One British pound traded for 6.6970 Turkish liras, compared to the GBP/TRY rate of 6.7130 at close on Wednesday.

In Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, the price of one ounce of gold was around $1,270.80 by market close, down from $1,275.00 a day ago.

Brent crude oil price was $53.87 per barrel as of 6 p.m. (1500GMT) Thursday, versus $55.29 at previous close.
