UPDATE – Turkey's Borsa Istanbul down at midweek close

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index fell 0.12% to close Wednesday at 1,083.91 points.

After starting the day at 1,086.09 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index was down 1.28 points from Tuesday's close of 1,085.19 points.

During the day, the index hovered between 1,079.83 and 1,091.30 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was 799 billion Turkish liras ($108 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 13.3 billion Turkish liras ($1.8 billion).

On the third transaction day of the week, 26 stocks on the index rose, 27 fell, and the rest were flat compared to Tuesday.

The highest trading volumes were posted by glass producer Sisecam, defense giant Aselsan, and private lender Garanti.

Stocks of energy company Aksa were the best performer, with its shares up 5.93%, while stocks of pharmaceutical firm Deva dropped the most, losing 3.66%.

The price of one ounce of gold was $1,961.00 by market close, down from $1,991.00 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $44.59 per barrel as of 6.15 p.m. local time (1515GMT) on Wednesday.
