ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index on Wednesday went up 0.22 percent to close at 90,200.71 points.
Starting the day at 90,444.83 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index ended the day with a 200.81-point hike from Tuesday's close.
The BIST 100's daily peak was 91,926.87 points, while it fell to 89,277.99 points during trading hours. Compared with the previous close, 37 stocks on the index rose, 56 fell, and seven were flat.
The benchmark index had a total market value of 589.6 billion liras ($106.8 billion) at close, as the top companies were Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding ($7.16 billion), energy giant Tupras ($5.97 billion), iron and steel producer Eregli Demir Celik ($5.74 billion).
The BIST 100's daily trade volume was 7.48 billion liras ($1.36 billion), while national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, private lender Garanti Bankasi, defense company Aselsan, state-run lender Halkbank, leading petrochemicals producer Petkim posted the highest trade volumes.
Shares of automotive company Dogus Otomotiv (DOAS) were the top gainers on Wednesday — up 16.55 percent –, while stocks of steel producer Cemtas Celik Makina (CEMTS) showed the worst performance, falling 9.08 percent.
Among all sectors, the BIST textile leather index recorded the highest increase, up 3.56 percent, and the biggest drop was posted by the BIST transportation index with a 3.45-percent decline.
By market close, one dollar was traded for 5.5450 liras, while the USD/TRY exchange rate was 5.4740 at Tuesday's close.
The euro/lira rate was 6.2780 at close on Wednesday, up from previous close of 6.2290.
One British pound was traded for 7.0870, while the GBP/TRY exchange rate was 6.9980 at the previous close.
In Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, one ounce of gold was sold for $1,217.90 at Wednesday's close, versus $1,223.30 at the previous close.
Hovering between $75.51 and $77.12 during the day, the price of Brent oil was around $76.07 per barrel as of 6.15 p.m. local time (1515GMT) Wednesday.
One barrel of Brent oil was sold for $66 at the beginning of this year.
