UPDATE – Turkey's benchmark index flat at close

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index ended Wednesday up 0.09 percent to close at 104,189.45 points.

After opening the midweek trading at 104,154.24 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index surged 91.09 points compared to the previous close.

Peaking at 104,793.06 points during Wednesday's trading, the BIST 100's daily low was 103,549.90 points, as 51 stocks on the index rose, 42 fell, and seven were flat compared to the previous close.

The market value of the index was around 678 billion Turkish liras ($127.1 billion) at close, and it posted a 8.4 billion Turkish lira ($1.97 billion) daily trade volume.

By market capitalization, the BIST 100's leading companies were Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding ($8.31 billion), private lender Garanti Bankasi ($7.3 billion), and energy giant Tupras ($6.9 billion).

Turkey's national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, Garanti Bankasi, and defense company Aselsan saw the highest trading volumes on Wednesday.

Shares of cement producer Goltas Cimento (GOLTS) saw the highest increase — 7.42 percent — while stocks of private lender ICBC Turkey Bank (ICBCT) did the worst, losing 17.47 percent.

As of the daily close, the U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate fell to 5.2820, down from 5.3050 at Tuesday's close.

The euro/lira exchange rate stood at 6.0370 at Wednesday's close, versus 6.0640 at the previous close.

One British pound traded for 6.9160 Turkish liras, as the GBP/TRY exchange rate was 7.0030 at Tuesday's close.

In Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, one ounce of gold was sold for $1,313.80 at the daily close, up from $1,308.10 at the previous close.

On Wednesday, the price of Brent oil was around $61.80 per barrel as of 6.00 p.m. local time (1500GMT), in a day-range of $60.98 to $61.95.
