ISTANBUL (AA) – Mechanisms for international cooperation developed by Turkey, Russia and Iran for solving regional crises can be used as a model in resolving political and economic issues in Asia, Iran’s parliament speaker said Thursday.

“This model can be expanded to encompass economic, security and political cooperation in the region, ” said Ali Larijani, who had arrived in Istanbul to attend the 11th plenary session of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA).

“If other countries take similar stance, we can find solutions to other crises. For example, we can solve the conflicts ongoing in Yemen and Afghanistan,” he added.

Larijani underlined that the many serious security and political issues facing Asia today could not be resolved overnight and that they required the development of mechanisms for multilateral cooperation.

A cooperation among countries is also necessary for the Syria crisis, he added.

Syria has only just begun to emerge from a devastating conflict that began in 2011 when the Assad regime cracked down on demonstrators with unexpected ferocity.
