UPDATE – Turkey: 1 soldier martyred in PKK terror attack in SE

ADDS MARDIN GOVERNOR OFFICE’S STATEMENT

MARDIN, Turkey (AA) – The terrorist PKK organization carried out a bomb attack in southeastern Turkey targeting security forces, martyring one soldier, and injuring eleven others, including two civilians, the regional governor’s office said.

Mardin Governor’s Office said in a statement the terrorists targeted a gendarmerie command in the Derik district of the Mardin province late Tuesday.

It said PKK terrorists detonated an explosive-laden vehicle. The injured were taken to nearby hospitals.

The governorate also conveyed its condolences to the family of the martyred soldier and wished a speedy recovery to the wounded.

Turkey’s southeast has been the scene of significant military operations since late 2015, as the police and army seek to clear PKK terrorists from urban areas.

PKK — listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU — resumed its 30-year armed campaign against the Turkish state in July 2015.

Since then, more than 400 members of the security forces have been martyred and more than 3,700 PKK terrorists killed.
