WASHINGTON (AA) – Multiple victims have been reported shot Friday, including multiple fatalities, at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in southeastern Florida.

Nine people were shot at the airport, according to NBC News. A suspected shooter has been taken into custody, it said.

“Multiple people are dead”, the Broward County Sherriff said.

The airport tweeted there was an “ongoing incident” at the baggage claim area of Terminal 2.

“I’m at the Ft. Lauderdale Airport. Shots have been fired. Everyone is running,” Ari Fleischer, who was former President George W. Bush spokesman, tweeted from the scene.

He later said that the area had calmed, but officers were not allowing anyone to leave his location.

All flights and services have been suspended at the airport.
