ADDS MILITARY RESPONSE

KILIS, Turkey (AA) – A rocket fired from northwestern Syria injured six people Thursday when it landed in a city center in Kilis, southern Turkey, the province’s governor told Anadolu Agency.

“Six people were injured, and five of them are in good health,” said Governor Ismail Catakli.

The Turkish Armed Forces responded immediately to the attack by shelling Daesh positions with howitzers and multiple rocket launchers, according to military sources, speaking on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on speaking with the media.

Following the attack in Kilis, ambulances and police rushed to the scene.

According to an Anadolu Agency correspondent at the scene, the projectile landed in Tekke Street near the local Sabah market in the neighborhood of Canpolat.

Kilis province lies six kilometers (four miles) from the Syrian border.

Turkey has been under indiscriminate rocket attack from inside Syria since mid-January.

In Kilis alone, the governor said that so far this year more than 20 people had been killed and more than 80 others wounded in such incidents.
