UPDATE – Police martyred in clash with PKK in SE Turkey

HAKKARI (AA) – A police officer was martyred during a clash between security forces and PKK terrorists in southeastern Hakkari province on Sunday, the governor’s office confirmed in a statement.

The clash in the Semdinli district also injured another officer, statement said, adding that the injured police was rushed to Hakkari State Hospital.

According to the governor’s office, a helicopter-backed operation against the PKK continues in the region.

The PKK — listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and EU — resumed its armed campaign against Turkey in July 2015. Since then, it has been responsible for the deaths of some 1,200 Turkish security personnel and civilians.
