UPDATE – Fire breaks out in village in northeast Turkey

ARTVIN, Turkey (AA) – A fire broke out Tuesday in a village in northeastern Turkey, an official said.

The village in Yusufeli district comprises nearly 70 wooden houses with a population of some 40 people, said Yilmaz Doruk, the governor of Artvin province.

No loss of human lives have been reported yet, Doruk added.

A total of 35 houses have become unusable, while two cattle have perished.

Omer Faruk Ozdemir, district governor of Yusufeli, also visited the scene.

The fire broke out at about 11:00 a.m. local time (0800GMT) in the Kaynarca (Sahlep) settlement in the village of Dokumacilar. The cause of the fire is still unknown.

The firefighters put the fire under control in nearly four hours.
