KABUL, Afghanistan (AA) – An armed assault on an Afghan security training center in the capital Kabul ended Thursday with both attackers gunned down by security forces, an official confirmed.
Security forces are in full control of the situation, and a cleanup operation is underway in the area, Hashmat Stanikzai, spokesman for the Afghan National Police’s (ANP) 101-Asmaye Zone, told Anadolu Agency.
Three security personnel were reported wounded in the assault on a training facility of the National Directorate of Security, the country's principal spy service, which started around 10:00 am (0530GMT).
Special forces were dispatched to the area to take on the attackers, who hid in a building under construction near the training facility, Stanikzai said earlier.
The local Pajhwok News reported that heavy blasts were heard prior to the armed assault.
A day earlier, at least 67 people were killed and more than 30 injured when a suspected suicide bomber detonated himself at a private student coaching center in the capital’s Dasht-e-Barchi area, a Shia majority part of the city.
In a week-long spate of violence across Afghanistan, hundreds of lives have been lost.
