HAKKARI, Turkey (AA) – Turkish forces killed seven PKK terrorists in the southeastern Hakkari province, officials said Friday.

In a statement published on its website, the Hakkari Governor’s Office said four terrorists were killed in Ikiyaka village in Yuksekova district.

Later on Friday, three more terrorists were killed in a counter-terrorism operation in Hakkari, according to the governor’s office.

The operation took place in Semdinli and Yuksekova districts of the province.

In a separate statement on Friday, the Turkish Armed Forces said airstrikes destroyed PKK shelters and ammunition depots in northern Iraq on Thursday.

The strikes targeted PKK positions in the Qandil, Matina and Gara regions.

Air raids on PKK targets in southeast Turkey and northern Iraq, where the terror group has its main base in the Qandil mountains near the Iranian border, have been carried out regularly since July 2015, when the PKK resumed its armed campaign.

The PKK — listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the EU and U.S. — has killed more than 1,200 Turkish security personnel and civilians since taking up arms again.
