ANKARA (AA) – Security forces “neutralized” six PKK terrorists Friday in southeastern Turkey, an official statement said.

According to a statement by the Interior Ministry, an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) spotted three terrorists in the Kavakli region of Hakkari province where an air-supported operation was carried out.

Separately, three PKK terrorists were arrested in Mardin province in a joint operation by the National Intelligence Service (MIT) and provincial police forces near the Syrian border.

The terrorists were planning to carry out attacks in urban centers, said security sources, requesting anonymity due to restrictions on speaking to the media.

Turkish authorities often use the word “neutralized ” in their statements to imply that the terrorists in question either surrendered or were killed or captured.

In its more than 30-year terror campaign against Turkey, the PKK — listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU — has been responsible for the death of some 40,000 people, including women and children.
