HAKKARI, Turkey (AA) – At least four PKK terrorists were “neutralized ” during counter-terror operations in southeastern Hakkari province on early Thursday, according to local security sources.

Turkish authorities often use the word “neutralized ” in their statements to imply that the terrorists in question were either killed or captured.

The wide-scale operation launched on Wednesday remains ongoing in the region, said the sources who asked not to be named due to restrictions on talking to media.

In Nusaybin district of the southeastern province of Mardin, three PKK terrorists surrendered to security forces, according to a statement by local governor's office.

The unarmed terrorists turned themselves in near the Syrian border on April 20-21, the statement added.

The PKK — listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU — waged a terror campaign against Turkey for more than 30 years and has been responsible for the death of nearly 40,000 people.
