AMMAN (AA) – Seven people lost their lives on Friday in flashfloods across Jordan, an official said.

According to government spokeswoman Jumana Ghunaimat, seven people were killed due to flashfloods that hit many areas in the country.

In an earlier statement, Ghunaimat said three people including two women and a girl were killed in Madaba province as their vehicle was swept away by a flashflood.

Ghunaimat stated that 60 people were evacuated and nine injured were hospitalized including some in critical condition.

Flash flooding also hit historic Jordan city of Petra as 3,760 tourists were evacuated due to the severe weather, according to Ghunaimat.
