HAKKARI/BATMAN, Turkey (AA) – Two PKK terrorists have been neutralized in an operation carried out by gendarmerie forces in Turkey's southeastern Hakkari province, the governorate said on Sunday.

According to a statement, provincial gendarmerie special forces held an operation in the Cobandagi region of Kavakli village, where another air operation neutralized three PKK terrorists on Friday.

“Two separatist terror group members, a woman and a man were neutralized after they opened fire at security forces who warned them to surrender, ” the statement said.

In a separate operation in southeastern Batman province, a terrorist was arrested for plotting an attack on high-ranking officials.

The provincial gendarmerie forces said terrorist Sait Ilmin — codenamed Rojhat — was arrested at Kozluk district's Tuzlagoz village and has been produced before a court.

Turkish authorities often use the word “neutralized ” in their statements to imply the terrorists in question either surrendered or were killed or captured.

In its more than 30-year terror campaign against Turkey, the PKK — listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU — has been responsible for the deaths of nearly 40,000 people, including women and children.
