ANKARA (AA) – Ukraine beat Sweden 2-1 in extra time in a UEFA Euro 2020 round of 16 match Tuesday.

Things seemed balanced at the beginning of the match at Hampden Park in Glasgow.

But that balance was disturbed when a left-footed shot by Ukraine’s defender Oleksandr Zinchenko gave his team the lead in the 27th minute.

Sweden seemed more productive after the goal.

Their efforts paid off before the end of the first half as Swede midfielder Emil Forsberg's equalizer made it 1-1 in the 43rd minute and the first half ended with this score.

Both sides missed a considerable number of chances in the second half.

A shot by Ukraine's Sergiy Sydorchuk clipped outside the post in the 56th minute.

The Swedes seemed more eager but unlucky in the second half. Forsberg hit the woodwork twice in the 57th and 69th minutes.

Ukraine defended well and the 90 minutes ended 1-1.

In extra time, Sweden’s defender Marcus Danielson was shown a red card as the result of his awful tackle on Artem Besedin in the 98th minute.

Despite having 10 players in the field, Sweden defended the score until the last minute.

Newly subbed in Artem Dovbyk's diving header broke their defense and brought victory to Ukraine in the 121st minute.

Ukraine will play against England in the quarterfinals.
