Turkish stocks up at Thursday's open

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey’s benchmark stock index opened at 1,403.10 points on Thursday, rising by 0.76% or 10.65 points from the previous close.

At Wednesday’s close, Borsa Istanbul’s BIST 100 index was up 0.21% at 1,392.45 points, with a daily trading volume of 33.8 billion Turkish liras ($4.32 billion).

The US dollar/Turkish lira exchange fell to 7.7820 as of 9:30 a.m. local time (0630GMT), versus 7.8150 on Wednesday.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate also decreased to 9.5290 from 9.5320, while one British pound traded for 10.5790 Turkish liras, down from 10.5960 at Wednesday’s close.

One barrel of Brent crude oil sold for around $51.60 as of 10.00 a.m. local time (0700GMT).

Analysts said investors will follow Turkey’s September unemployment figures and the European Central Bank’s interest rates decision to be announced on Thursday.
