Turkish stocks up at open

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index started day with a 0.22 percent hike to open at 102,291.49 points on Wednesday.

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index rose 223.46 points at the opening session. The index was down 2.57 percent to 102,068.03 points with a 7.5 billion Turkish lira ($1.9 billion) trade volume at Tuesday's close.

At the mid-week opening, the BIST banking index advanced 0.5 percent and the BIST holding index was flat with a 0.06 percent decline.

Among all sectors, the investment trusts sector performed the best at Wednesday's opening — up 0.67 percent — while the food beverages sector index fell the most, down 0.61 percent.

One U.S. dollar traded for 3.9620 Turkish liras as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) Wednesday, compared with the Tuesday's closing USD/TRY rate at 3.9290.

The EUR/TRY rate rose to 4.6970 on Wednesday morning, up from 4.6730 at the close on Tuesday.

The price of Brent oil fell to $63.16 per barrel as of 9.07 a.m. local time (0607GMT) Wednesday, down from Tuesday's close at $63.51.
