Turkish stocks starts Tuesday looking up

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index was up 0.28%, or 318.08 points to start Tuesday at 115,072.05 points.

On Monday's close, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index went up 0.94% to 114,753.97 points with a daily trading volume of 9.8 billion Turkish liras ($1.65 billion).

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate stood at 5.9500 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) on Tuesday, down from 5.9580 at Monday's close.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate rose to 6.6700, versus 6.6460, and one British pound traded for 7.8210 Turkish liras, while it was 7.8140 at the previous close.

One barrel of Brent crude oil sold for around $66.58 as of 10 a.m. local time (0700GMT) on Tuesday.

The benchmark stock index will be closed on Wednesday due to New Year's Day.
