Turkish stocks start week up 0.56 pct

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index went up 0.52 percent or 518.42 points to start the week at 93,521.69 points.

Among all sectors, the BIST tourism index showed the best opening — up 2.11 percent. The investment trusts sector opened the day down, falling 0.08 percent, singling out as the only sector to do so.

On Friday, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index increased by 0.40 percent to close the week at 93,003.27 points with a trading volume of 4.8 billion Turkish liras ($912 million).

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate was 5.2840 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT), compared with Friday's closing rate of 5.2800.

The euro/lira rate was 6.0010, versus 5.9960 at the last close. One British pound traded for 6.7890 Turkish liras, as the GBP/TRY was 6.7850 by market close on Friday.

The price of Brent oil was $60.10 per barrel as of 10 a.m. local time (0700GMT) Monday.
