Turkish stocks open Wednesday 0.78% down

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index started the midweek trading down 0.78% or 714.73 points to open at 90,767.72 points Wednesday.

On Tuesday, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index fell 1.61% to close at 91,482.45 points with a daily trading volume of 5.43 billion Turkish liras ($883 million).

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate stood at 6.1620 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) Wednesday, compared to 6.1410 at Tuesday's close.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate was 6.9110, versus 6.8740, and one British pound was exchanged for 8.0670 Turkish liras, compared to 8.0330.

One barrel of Brent oil was sold for $70.37 as of 10 a.m. local time (0700GMT) on Wednesday.
