Turkish speaker celebrates Poland’s Victory Day

WARSAW (AA) – Turkish parliament speaker Ismail Kahraman on Tuesday praised cooperation with Poland during a Victory Day celebration at the Turkish embassy in Warsaw.

Poland is one of the countries that supports Turkey’s bid to become a member of the EU, Kahraman said in praise of bilateral relations between the two nations.

“I believe our partnership will bring good results in economic, cultural and political domains,” he said at a reception at the Turkish embassy.

“Our cooperation will contribute to world peace in both regional and global. I express my gratitude to all of you for your participation on this blessed day,” he added.

The speaker also addressed the recent overthrow attempt on the Turkish government. “We lived through dark day on July 15. We came together as a nation, as a state and everything normalized within 20 hours. Our Turkey is walking confidently toward the future,” he said.

“We have many victory days. One of them is Aug. 26, 1071,” he said, referring to the Seljuk Turks victory against the Byzantine army at the Battle of Manzikert that opened the way for Turkish sovereignty in Anatolia.
