HAKKARI, Turkey (AA) – A Turkish soldier on Thursday succumbed to his wounds from a cross-border PKK terror attack in southeastern Turkey, the provincial governorship announced.

In a statement, the Hakkari Governor’s Office said the soldier was martyred from wounds sustained in a cross-border PKK attack in a base zone around Mt. Guven.

The cross-border airstrike was carried out by the PKK terrorists from the Iraqi side of the Turkish border, it added.

In an earlier statement, the governorship said six soldiers were injured in the attack.

The martyred soldier was among those injured.

The PKK is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey as well as the U.S. and EU.

The PKK's over three-decade terror campaign against Turkey has killed some 40,000 people, including women and children.
