Turkish president congratulates women’s national volleyball team

ANKARA (AA) – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Friday celebrated the women’s national volleyball team for winning bronze at the 2021 FIVB Volleyball Nations League.

Erdogan called manager Pelin Celik on the telephone after the team defeated Japan 3-0, according to a statement from the Turkish Volleyball Federation.

He said he closely followed the match, underlining that he was proud of the success achieved by "the Sultans of the Net" and that he believed they would be successful at the Olympic Games in Tokyo that begins next month.

Team captain Eda Erdem Dundar thanked Erdogan for the support he has always given to Turkish volleyball.

The team beat Japan in straight sets 25-19, 25-16, 25-17 in Rimini, Italy.

“The Sultans of the Net” played in the third-place playoff match after losing 3-0 to the US in the semifinals on Thursday.
