Turkish police seize over 50 kg of heroin

VAN, Turkey (AA) – Turkish police seized more than 50 kilograms of heroin on Saturday, according to sources.

Eastern Van province police headquarters said in a statement that 48.5 kg of heroin were seized in a minibus in Edremit district and the driver was arrested over drug trafficking.

In eastern Bitlis province, a pedestrian was stopped by police and 6.063 kg of heroin were confiscated from him.

He was later arrested, the provincial governor's office said in a statement.

In western Izmir province, police found 8,575 cannabis roots weighing 845 kilograms and 172 kilograms of marijuana.

The sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said a suspect was arrested over drug trafficking.

This is one of the largest cannabis seizure in Izmir, the sources added.
