ANKARA (AA) – Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu has wished all Jewish families in Turkey a happy Passover.
The Turkish Prime Ministry’s Press Office on Saturday released a statement, in which Davutoglu said that Turks, members of a tradition based on peace and respect for all faiths, “give great importance […] for our Jewish citizens to live freely their religion and culture”.
Davutoglu went on wishing a happy Passover “for all Jews and our Jewish citizens with whom we have lived together in peace for centuries.”
“I wish Passover brings peace and tranquility to all mankind,” Davutoglu said.
A Major Jewish spring festival, Passover is a seven-day celebration during which Jews commemorate their people’s emancipation from slavery in ancient Egypt. This year’s Passover festival starts on Friday and ends on April 30.
