Turkish opposition leader woos ruling party voters

By Emin Avundukluoglu

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey’s main opposition leader on Tuesday said that in the nearly two decades the Justice and Development (AK) Party has been in power, his own party has never blocked any of its positive policy moves.

"I ask all of my brothers who vote for the AK Party; when and where has the [opposition Republican People's Party] CHP prevented some important move sought by your party, which for 19 years you have been voting for? There is no such thing " Kemal Kilicdaroglu, the CHP leader, told his party's parliamentary group.

Kilicdaroglu said the mission of his party is to tackle the problems faced by the Turkish people.

"This is our debt of honor, beyond even a mission," he said.

All CHP members should wage this battle everywhere and in every environment, he added.

The AK Party came to power in November 2002.
