Turkish military chief attends Balkan conference

BELGRADE, Serbia (AA) – Turkey's Chief of the General Staff Hulusi Akar on Wednesday attended an international conference in the Serbian capital Belgrade.

The 12th Balkan Countries Chiefs of Defense Conference also gathered Serbian Chief of General Staff Ljubisa Dikovic, Albanian Chief of General Staff Bardhyl Kollcaku, Bosnian Chief of General Staff Senad Masovic, Bulgarian Chief of General Staff Andrey Botsev, Greek Chief of Staff Evangelos Apostolakis, Macedonian Chief of General Staff Metodija Velickovski, Montenegrin Chief of General Staff Ilija Dakovic and Romanian Chief of General Staff Nicolae-Ionel Ciuca.

Speaking at the opening of the conference, Serbian Defense Minister Aleksandar Vulin recalled that Serbia is a neutral country.

“There is no greater benefit than the provision of peace, stability and security in the region, ” said Vulin.

Vulin stressed that Serbia is open to business co-operation with both the East and the West.

He added that Serbia is ready to participate at all times in the fight against terrorism, drugs and crime.

The conference was closed to the media.

NATO and military committee officials from the European Union (EU) also attended the conference.
